Bio

Katerina Eng Beckman moves through life as a freelance dancer, choreographer and creative facilitator. She has a passion for collaboration and strives to erase the boundaries that exist between art mediums.

As the Founder & Creative Facilitator of OTHER ODE Kat seeks to bring meaningful change to the dance industry by implementing equitable practices that center the dancers’ experiences. Alongside the OTHER ODE Dance Advisory Board, she aims to create empowering work practices that can be applied to dance production, programming selection, and dancer support.

Kat takes pride in her Peranakan and Australian roots. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and received her ballet training from SF Ballet School. At 17, she moved to New York City to dance with American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company. Whilst dancing there, she was accepted into The Juilliard School, where she went on to dance lead roles in works by Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Jessica Lang and Wayne McGregor. She also was a 4-year GLUCK fellow in which she led an interdisciplinary group of Juilliard artists to perform across the NY boroughs for the youth and elderly at healthcare facilities and community centers.

In 2018 Kat graduated from Juilliard with a BFA in dance. Since graduating, she freelances as a dancer & choreographer in the SF Bay Area. She has performed works by Dani Rowe, Martha Graham, Tara Bucknor, Marika Brussel, Andrea Schermoly, Kimberly Marie Olivier, and Olivier Wevers.

Kat’s choreographic work has been performed in New York City at the White Wave Soloduo Dance Festival and at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in Juilliard’s 2018 Choreographic Honors, and at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. .

Her recent choreographic commissions have included new works for site-specific events, stage productions, opera, short films, and fashion editorials/campaigns. Kat’s first evening length work, Where We Live, premiered as a part of DZINE’s (now Luminaire) 2022 gallery party. She has also danced and created movement for fashion designers Christian Siriano, Tory Burch, Lan Jaenicke, Victor Tung, and Camelia Skikos.

In partnership with Rise Arts, Kat was the co-creator & choreographer of films As Big as the Sky and Veiled. Both films have been shown at film festivals across the US and internationally.
